perfumes the city
flattens out real characters
creates a new language
is it we who make the choice?
or the choice that makes us?

as an instinct of self preservation
creates a high degree of tension
notes being held in place
by negative space
i envy people with clear-cut allegiances
uncompromisable spirit, a codependent coherence
enriched by a certain type of competition

a maddening poverty of terms
rendered this detoxification intolerable
now you're unsentimental
and characteristically unaccountable
